Senior Data Engineer (m/f/d)

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will lead the development and evolution of our company-wide data platform for flight data. You will play a central role in shaping how flight logs are collected, processed, stored, and analyzed across R&D, production, testing, and customer support.

You will join our Data Engineering & Cloud team (currently 5 engineers) and take technical ownership of the data platform, setting direction, defining best practices, and driving architectural decisions.

Working closely with stakeholders in Ukraine and Germany, you will enable teams to extract reliable insights from large-scale flight telemetry and push the boundaries of drone technology.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining system design, implementation, and technical mentorship.

What is your Day to Day Mission

• Own and lead the development of the flight data platform, from ingestion to analytics

• Design, build, and maintain scalable back-end systems for tool-based flight data analysis used across R&D, production, and support

• Architect and manage robust, high-performance database solutions for large volumes of time-series and telemetry data

• Define and implement data pipelines, APIs, and cloud infrastructure to support automated analysis and testing

• Continuously improve system reliability, performance, and observability

• Expand and maintain automated test suites and data quality checks

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate domain needs into technical solutions

• Act as a technical mentor, promoting engineering best practices within the team

What you bring to the team

Education & Background

• Degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or similar)

• Several years of professional experience in data engineering or backend platform development

Backend & Platform Engineering

• Strong hands-on experience building backend systems in Python

• Solid understanding of REST APIs, distributed systems, and microservice architectures

• Experience designing production-grade, maintainable systems

Data & Databases

• Proven experience with relational, time-series, and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MongoDB)

• Strong understanding of data modeling, efficient storage, and retrieval strategies

• Experience working with large-scale, high-frequency data sets

Cloud & DevOps

• Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

• Practical knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform)

• Ability to design and operate scalable, production-ready infrastructure

Analytical & Domain Skills

• Analytical mindset with basic understanding of statistics and signal processing

• Familiarity with dynamic systems analysis (e.g. ODEs, LTI systems) is a strong plus

Nice to Have

• Experience with MATLAB

• Passion for aviation, telemetry, flight mechanics, or autonomous systems

• Prior experience leading technical initiatives or acting as a platform owner
